Common Questions
What is a census overlay?
A census overlay is a live map layer that renders demographic data as a choropleth on top of your map. Toggle on 'Median Household Income' and every neighborhood in the viewport shades by its income value — no spreadsheets, no GIS software, no data wrangling. Overlay income, population, age, or housing on any isochrone or trade area to instantly understand the people inside it.
Where do I see demographic data by zip code?
Every demographic layer renders at the neighborhood (tract) level and rolls up cleanly to ZIP code, city, county, or any custom polygon you draw. Toggle a layer, zoom or draw to a ZIP, and the value for that ZIP — population, income, age, housing, whatever — appears instantly.
What geographic coverage do the data layers have?
Demographic and economic layers cover the entire United States at the neighborhood level. Behavioral layers like foot traffic and walk scores are available in most US metros. Global demographic coverage for key international markets is on the roadmap.
How often is the data updated?
Demographic layers are refreshed annually. Behavioral layers (foot traffic, spending) are refreshed monthly. Every layer carries a timestamp so you know exactly how current a number is.
Can I combine data layers with isochrones?
Yes. Toggle on any data layer while viewing a drive-time or walk-time isochrone. The choropleth renders underneath your trade area, giving you demographic context for any travel-time zone.
Can I export the underlying data?
Yes. Premium users can export layer data for any visible area as CSV. You can also include data summaries in PDF reports alongside your maps.
Are the free layers really free?
Yes. Population Density and Median Household Income are available to all users, no account required. They render as live choropleths directly on the map.
