Definition
What is sales territory mapping?
Sales territory mapping is the process of dividing a market into geographic regions, assigning each region to a rep or team, and balancing the regions so every seller has a fair path to quota. It's the quiet backbone of every sales organization, and the place most teams still rely on a spreadsheet, a static PDF, or a colored-in printout from a conference room wall.
Modern territory mapping software replaces those artifacts with an interactive map. You see every account, every rep, every ZIP code in one view. You can redraw a boundary and instantly see how population, revenue potential, and drive time shift across the team. That feedback loop is what makes territory alignment a decision you can defend, not a compromise you can only hope holds up through the fiscal year.
RadiusMapper sits between drawing lines in a mapping tool and the heavyweight enterprise territory management suites. It pairs with our site selection and location intelligence products, so the same demographic and drive-time data that powers site planning also powers your territory alignment.
Capabilities
Everything a territory mapping tool should do
Draw territories visually
Draw custom polygons or generate drive-time territories around each rep's home base. Start from a blank map or import your current state.
See addressable demand in every territory
Every territory is enriched with population, income, and household composition so you can compare coverage at a glance.
Compare territories side by side
Evaluate each region on the metrics that matter: population, drive time, accounts. Iterate until the alignment is defensible.
Model travel-time reach
Territory boundaries can follow the real road network from a rep's home base, not arbitrary ZIP lines.
Save and version your plans
Keep multiple territory drafts in a single project, iterate with teammates, and revisit last quarter's alignment at any time.
Export for any downstream system
Send finalized territories out as CSV or GeoJSON for your CRM or dispatch system. Custom integrations available on Pro.
Use Cases
Who uses territory mapping?
Any team where reps, technicians, or agents are assigned to a region benefits from a quantified alignment. These are the groups that live inside RadiusMapper.
Sales operations
Re-align quarterly when headcount, quotas, or product lines change. Build a repeatable territory planning motion instead of a once-a-year spreadsheet panic.
Franchise development
Prevent territory overlap between franchisees, protect royalty streams, and validate that each new territory has enough addressable demand to succeed.
Field service & home services
Minimize windshield time and maximize billable hours by aligning technicians to drive-time territories anchored on their home base.
Medical device & pharma reps
Align reps to HCP density and account potential, balance workload across the team, and adjust quickly when a product or specialty changes.
Financial services & advisors
Align advisor territories to AUM concentration and household income, then re-balance when books of business shift.
Insurance agents
Optimize agent coverage regions by population, claim frequency, and drive time to build territories that grow premium without cannibalizing peers.
Free vs Pro

How It Works
How territory mapping works in RadiusMapper
Import your team and accounts
Upload a CSV of reps, home bases, and accounts (or start from scratch on the map). Your current state renders in seconds.
Draw your territories
Paint regions by hand or generate drive-time territories around each rep's home base. Group custom polygons for the coverage model you need.
Compare and iterate
Every territory is scored on population, drive time, and account count. Swap accounts, redraw lines, and iterate until the alignment is defensible.
Export for downstream systems
Send finalized territories out as CSV or GeoJSON for your CRM or dispatch system. Custom integrations are available on Pro.
Why Travel-Time
The case for travel-time territories
ZIP codes were designed for mail routing, not sales coverage. A rep based in a dense metro can cover a dozen ZIPs before lunch. A rep in a rural territory can spend an entire day driving across a single one. When you align on ZIP alone, the two reps look equal on paper and wildly unequal in practice.
Travel-time territories flip the model. Every boundary is drawn from a rep's home base outward along the real road network, with real intersections and real speed limits. A 45-minute territory is a 45-minute territory whether the rep is in Manhattan or Montana. That's a dramatically better match for how reps actually work than a radius or a ZIP-code bundle drawn in a vacuum.

Territory Mapping FAQs
What is sales territory mapping?
Sales territory mapping is the process of dividing a market into geographic regions and assigning each region to a specific rep or team. Done well, it balances workload, protects existing accounts, and gives every rep a realistic path to quota. Modern sales territory mapping replaces spreadsheets and hand-drawn regions with quantified territories based on population, income, and drive-time reach.
What is territory mapping software?
Territory mapping software is a visual tool that lets sales ops, franchise development, and field service leaders draw and compare geographic territories on a map. RadiusMapper supports custom polygons and drive-time polygons, layers demographic data inside each territory, and lets you export the finalized territories as CSV or GeoJSON.
Is there free territory mapping software?
Yes. RadiusMapper's free tier lets you draw territories on an interactive map, export as CSV, and share a URL with your team. Paid tiers add demographic overlays, saved projects, PDF reporting, and full API access. Most teams start free to validate the workflow, then upgrade once territories are live in production.
Can I use this for Salesforce territory mapping?
Yes. Build and refine your territories in RadiusMapper with demographic and drive-time context, then export the finalized boundaries and assignments as CSV or GeoJSON for import into Salesforce (or any other CRM). Custom integrations are available on the Pro tier for teams that want a direct, automated workflow.
How is this different from drawing lines on Google Maps?
Google Maps lets you draw shapes. It does not tell you how much addressable population sits inside each shape, how much drive time a rep needs to cover it, or how one territory compares to another. A real territory mapping tool scores each region on the metrics that actually drive quota attainment.
Does it work for franchise territory mapping?
Yes. Franchise development teams use RadiusMapper to grant exclusive territories, prevent overlap between franchisees, and validate that each territory has enough addressable demand to support the franchise investment and royalty expectations.
How do I compare territories for fairness?
Every territory you draw is enriched with population, income, household composition, and drive-time data. Compare those numbers side by side, swap accounts, redraw lines, and iterate until the alignment is defensible. Weights are up to you, and the math is transparent.
Can I import my existing territories?
Yes. Upload a CSV of ZIP-to-rep assignments or the territory geometry you're using today, and the map renders your current state. You can then apply the same enrichment and comparison to see where the imbalances are before you propose a re-alignment.
How do I get my territories into my CRM?
Export finalized territories as CSV or GeoJSON and import on the CRM side. Pro customers also get custom integrations. Talk to us about the specific systems you need connected and we'll scope it.
